Introducing...

Every month, we introduce one of the Kingston Wheelers. Colin Brades is in the hotseat for February 2005. Have you ridden abroad? Colin must be the most well-travelled club member, having ridden his bike in 37 countries, from Iceland to Indonesia. Aptly, he's also a member of the Lewes Wanderers.

Name: Colin Brades.

Age: 45 years.

Significant Others: Marianne.

What made you start cycling? In 1987, I had to end my footballing career due to age and injury. As my parents had both been keen cyclists I started riding; initially off-road but eventually the lure of the tarmac was too great.

Why did you join Kingston Wheelers? Like Tim Lawn I work for club sponsor Cluttons, but based in their Brighton office. I joined as a second claim member to get the jersey! Also the fact nearest village to my home town of Lewes is also called Kingston.

Date you joined the Club: September 2004.

What bike do you ride? Cannondale R800 plus vintage Hetchins "Curly Stayed" Audax machine.

Give us a brief cycling background: Mainly time trialling with my local club Lewes Wanderers, but also a serious Audax and Cyclosportif competitor. I have toured or competed by bike in 37 countries worldwide including Iceland, USA & Canada, Indonesia, all the Scandanavian countries, most of Eastern Europe etc.

What was your best performance? Probably meeting my partner Marianne whilst cyclo-touring in Eastern Europe many years ago.

What is your favourite race food? Bananas, bananas or bananas.

Where is your favourite cycling location? Anywhere in Switzerland (I seem to visit every two years or so without fail). Where I live in Lewes also has some fine routes, including the best sections of the South Downs Way and Ditchling Beacon on the doorstop. The Newhaven - Dieppe ferry is only a few miles from home, so I also regularly visit Normandy in the Summer months.

Most likely to say: "How about a cuppa?" (When passing a tea-shop).

Least likely to say: "Just put me back on my bike." (when sitting in a tea-shop).
