Introducing...

Every month, we introduce some of the Kingston Wheelers and Keith Lancaster is here for May 2008. Like quite a few in the club, he's from a rowing background and joined the club after discovering "far and away the best and friendliest bunch".

Name: Keith Lancaster

Age: 32

Significant others: Kate, my wife, and our.. err.. 6.5 bikes, and my golf clubs, and not necessarily always in that order.

What made you start cycling?Stopped rowing seriously after ten plus years, continued to eat like a rower, got fat, and then thought enough was enough as I enjoy being healthy. I was probably also influenced by my Dad who TT'd in the 60's/70's in the north-west . I remember going out to watch the Milk Race as it was then on a couple of occasions. I watched all the great C4 coverage with Phil Liggett when I was younger and loved the bright colours and scenery too ! Plus I must have missed lycra...

Why did you join Kingston Wheelers? I was looking for a sport that would keep me fit whilst being time constrained with working in the City, stupidly entered London - Canterbury last year, and then thought oh now I need to train up for that! Had a look around on-line, the Kingston Wheelers seemed far and away the best and friendliest bunch and that was that!

Date you joined the Club: March 2007.

What bike do you ride? Scott R3 hybrid or Kona fixie on the commute, Bianchi B4P 928 on club rides and sportives. If I got into racing it'd most likely be cyclocross - so there's another bike!

Give us a brief cycling background: Errrr...does round and round the block as a kiddie count? And on the exercise bike as a rower for warm ups and downs?

What was your best performance?I don't ride to race so can't give numbers, times, points totals or wattages produced. Sportive wise - finishing the London Canterbury in a respectable time 5.51 I think.

What was your worst day on the bike? Easy - Forest of Dean cyclo on a hairline fractured hip. (I didn't know at the time but I thought something didn't feel right!)

Who is your favourite pro or inspiration? All the domestiques you never hear of who give their all for 250 days of the year for not alot. Respect.

What is your favourite bike food? Bananas, cereal bars, dextrose tablets, brioche and jam.

Where is your favourite cycling location? Not been many places yet, but Mallorca in December/January is a great start to the year. I also love the roads up in Cheshire/Peak District when I visit home.

Most likely to say: "I'm hungry" or "Do I look fat in this kit".

Least likely to say: "How should I know as I'm not likely to say it."
