After a very successful Sporting 14 this past weekend, we've got another event coming up in the calendar needing helping hands: the KW Surrey League races at Dunsfold on Sunday March 14. The first race is at 9:30am and will go til noonish; the second race starts at 1:30pm and goes til about 4:30pm.

Jim and I are taking over the organisation this year, but thanks to the help of some experienced members it should run smoothly. But we still need a dozen or so volunteers. If you're racing this year, please help us out -- by either volunteering at one of races yourself, or getting a proxy (spouse, sibling, friend, etc.) to help us instead.

What we need for each race:
-- hands in the hall helping with the coffee/tea/cakes, setting up chairs, helping with signing-on, etc.
-- marshals on the corners (to be assisted by the NEG guys on motorbikes, so this is less stressful a job than you think).
-- finish line helpers and marshal

Also, we still need a couple of cars during the races (lead cars and/or driving the commissaires if they need it). The drivers must be British Cycling members.

Any and all help is welcome! If you can only volunteer for half the day, that's fine too. Please PM or e-mail me at maryka [at] pobox [dot] com.

Yes, Gezza is in charge of catering! You'll have a helper or two though I hope.

I'll PM you re. the specifics but yes, I second the call for homemade cakes! Very Happy

I think that I may have that day free, if so I can help out. I have the Squadra Donne Team Car, equipped for race support, we have race radio, and a pretty yellow flashing light! Let me know what I can do on the day, but subject to me checking my diary.

The road where the finish is, is in a really bad state. I'd get onto the council pronto.

Yeah I was out there last week with my camera taking notes. There are some big holes on the course too. I forwarded it all to Glyn who's sent it to the council. Hopefully we can get it fixed before race day, though as it is, it's not unrideable.

Thanks to everyone who's volunteered so far! And we still need more! I'll put together a list of names and tasks in the next week or two.

More help's needed. There are plenty of you discussing racing on here but some are bit shy to to help it seems Twisted Evil

Perhaps some are busy on the big day or you've just delayed getting in touch but if you can help, please do.

With some races disappearing from the calendar due to a lack of support, please remember no racing happens without volunteers. There are no professional race organisers. Instead it's all about grass roots support and people mucking in for half a day.

Just as you enjoy racing from time to time, it's good to do your bit to help out. Please get involved!

As James said, those of you who race under the KW banner should do your bit for the club. You don't have to miss out on riding as a club run could go from the usual meet point to the event albeit leaving a bit earlier. So come on people support your club!
