Introducing...
Every month, we introduce one of the Kingston Wheelers and Sean Gannon is here for September 2006. He's been mountain biking for some years but recently made the switch to the road, on "a bike that felt small enough for a five year old" but now he's loving it.

Ouch! An few scrapes from the MTB trails...
Name: Sean Gannon
Age: 33
Significant Others: Helen (and our bump due in February - all being well, 2 cats)
Date you joined the Club: July 2006.
Why did you join Kingston Wheelers? Having moved back to the area and changed cycling disciplines, I wanted others to ride with and to push me.
What made you start cycling? My sister at the age of about six.
Give us a brief cycling background: Always ridden when possible throughout teens and 20's for pleasure (not competitively), been mountain biking a fair bit for the last four to five years since I bought the FSR and started to use it to commute since last year. This year I decided to make the move to a road bike. What an adjustment! For the first few weeks, could not get used to the harshness and the fact that I felt that I was riding a bike that felt small enough for a five year old! Now four weeks in, I am loving it, the distance and speed possible is great. Already looking at full carbon bikes, lighter bits etc (Oh Dear!)
What bike do you ride? A new Bianchi Via Nirone 7 Alu Carbon Ultegra. I also have two Specialised FSR XC Comp MTBs
What was your best performance? As yet, I have not raced, however, I time every trip and lap of the park and since the move to the road bike am seeing a significant improvement in my performance. I will start to keep proper records as soon as I start racing which will be just after I believe that I won't make a complete idiot of myself.
What was your worst day on the bike? Not too many actually although in the good old days of being able (although probably not allowed) to go almost anywhere in Richmond Park, I was going down the inside of Star and Garter hill when I was caught in a dried out rut in the track and next thing I know, I wrapped my knee around a tree the wrong way.
Who is your favourite pro or inspiration? Not really inspired by big riders, I enjoy cycling myself rather than watching others.
What is your favourite race food? Boringly, I really find that a big plate of pasta the night before really works.
Where is your favourite cycling location? On the road bike, its The Zig Zag up Box Hill. A great challenge for a new rider which takes concentration.
Most likely to say: "I'll give that a go."
Least likely to say: "I'll just get off and walk instead."
