Introducing...

Every month, we introduce one of the Kingston Wheelers. However, members were shy in coming forward for a while earlier this year, so we caught up with Cofidis pro cyclist, Stuart O'Grady. The gutsy Aussie has won World Cup races, worn the yellow jersey in the Tour de France and won Olympic gold in Athens. He's already got himself on the podium in 2005 and should win more this year. Sadly he isn't a member...

Thanks to Sandrine Ambrosini for doing the interview.

Name: Stuart O'Grady.

Age: 31.

Significant Others: Wife Anne-Marie and son Seth.

What made you start cycling? My whole family was into cycling, my dad rode for South Australia, my uncle went to the Olympics. I grew up with track cycling.

What bike do you ride? A new Willier.

Give us a brief cycling background: Like I said, I grew up in a cycling family. I started on the track but saw more opportunities to ride on the road. So I moved away from pursuit to road racing but I still love the atmosphere of the track.

Who is your favourite pro or inspiration? Charlie Walsh [former Australian track coach] taught me how to work hard and how to make the work pay good.

What was your best performance? Getting gold in Athens.

What is your favourite race food? What? Anything, something different, we eat the same thing too often.

Where is your favourite cycling location? I like riding at home [Adelaide] and am based in Toulouse and it's alright there. Colorado Springs is a cool place too, went there a while ago.

Most likely to say: "The harder I work, the luckier I get."

Least likely to say: "Dunno."
